To mobilize for a Future Made in Quebec

The future interests and worries us all. After all, we constantly act with the intention of the future, whether it is for a meeting in 2 days, a report to be submitted in 2 weeks, a vacation in 3 months. As a community, we also have a future and given the rapid changes and growing uncertainties, it is appropriate to reflect on it, explore alternatives and choose a future that will better reflect our inspirations, our aspirations, a future that will unleash our full potential.

To mobilize at all levels

Mobilizing is the expression of the need of this “social animal” that we are. This mobilization manifests itself and materializes at the macro, meso or micro levels. It manifests itself at the level of governments, organizations and people, industries, professions and trades. It is also essential in education, so that Futures Literacy is introduced, taught and perfected. It also allows mobilization on major topics such as Politics, Economics, Social, Technology, Legal, Environment and Ethics (PESTLE+E analysis) and more.

Futures Consciousness

If we are aware of a future, it is because we have the natural capacity to do so. We know that we can shape the future through today’s decisions and actions. We know that we can set goals for ourselves over time and achieve them. We create our future and we also know that the environment is dynamic and we adjust accordingly. Futures Consciousness manifests through 5 dimensions: time perspective, agency beliefs, openness to alternatives, systems perception and concern for others (Futures Consciousness © University of Turku, Finland).

From Future Consciousness, we approach Futures Literacy and then we learn Participatory/Collaborative Foresight.

Futures Literacy

Futures Literacy is learning what the future is, its alphabet, how we make the future, it is learning how to read (signals, decode possible futures), how to imagine, write or describe and communicate the future. It is also learning that there is no future only its anticipation and not a furure but futures. Futures Literacy allows us to learn methods, to acquire different skills such as anticipation and prospection as in prospecting possible futures.

Foresight/Prospective is participitory/collaborative

Where is this hoped for future hiding? Who possesses it without us knowing it?

Foresight is this method of prospecting futures, futures (cone of futures) that are possible, plausible, probable, projected, preposterous (including : absurd, daring, ridiculous, surprising, disappointing). Foresight allows us to see that the future we are heading towards is not or is no longer adequate, that it repeats a past that is not wanted as a future or that is no longer entirely in the future we want or need given the changes and uncertainties that are emerging. Each person has her own idea of the future, of futures, participatory or collaborative foresight allows us to explore them together. Participitory foresight taps into to wisdom of the crowd to consider futures that we had not thought of, to choose a future that mobilizes the person, the people, the community, the population.

Foresight/prospective allows for the new (aka innovation) and for the wide range of action, preaction and proaction.

MORE PEOPLE, MORE FUTURES, MORE FUTURES, A BETTER FUTURE.
