A FUTURE MADE IN QUEBEC is an invitation, an initiative that aims to inform, train and mobilize Quebec’ population and organizations to engage in foresight. It also aims to invite organizations already practicing it to share their successes and challenges.

Developing empathy for the future and the next generations is everyone’s business, without exception, from the youngest to the oldest people and private and public organizations.

// Better distribute the future : it is said that the future is not distributed equally. Learning it allows us to better distribute it. It can also be taught, just as we teach history.
// Learn the future : helps us better understand the role of the future in what we see and do. It stimulates the imagination, improving our ability to prepare, recover and invent when changes occur (UNESCO). Stimulating the imagination must start early.
// Detect trends and signals : by scanning the environment well, we can detect current or emerging trends and perceive weak signals about possible futures.
// Develop alternative futures and scenarios : The future is plural, there is not just one. So, we must explore and consider several futures and make scenarios for each.
// Better understand consequences : analyzing first and second order consequences allows us to better understand the risks and threats of decisions regarding the future in order to avoid the harmful or perverse consequences of our decisions.
// Develop advances and advantages : the methods and tools used will highlight advances and competitive advantages that certain futures can produce.
// Develop vision : we say that a person who sees far has good vision. Having a vision about the future is not a gift, but the result of using proven methods and tools.
// Augment performance : understanding the future means understanding the long term. A longitudinal study by Rohrbeck and Kum on the impact of foresight on organizational performance concluded that: “So-called “future-ready” companies, defined as those with a foresight practice, had 33% higher profitability than the average company and 200% higher growth.”
// Practice vigilance : scan the political, economic, social, technological, environmental, legal (PESTEL) and more environment, in order to remain constantly on the lookout for risks, threats and opportunities that may arise and have a determining effect on the future.
// Develop future intelligence : by mobilizing and encouraging citizen foresight and the networking of foresight information a society thus benefits from superior information on the risks and opportunities that emerge or may emerge. It also allows to appropriate its own methods, tools and thus to build up foresigh heritage.assets
// Develop antifragility : antifragility is a property of systems that increases their ability to thrive in the face of stress, shock, volatility, noise, errors, defects, attacks, or failures (Wikipedia). The practice of foresight, for example, allows us to increase our choices, options, or alternatives, promotes antifragility.

// Mieux distribuer le futur : on dit que le futur n’est pas distribué également. L’apprendre permet de mieux le distribuer. On peut aussi l’enseigner, tout comme on enseigne l’histoire.
// Apprendre le futur : permet de mieux comprendre le rôle du futur dans ce que nous voyons et faisons. Cela stimule l’imagination, améliore notre capacité à nous préparer, à nous rétablir et à inventer lorsque les changements se produisent (UNESCO). Stimuler l’imagination doit commencer tôt.
// Détecter les tendances et signaux : en faisant un bon balayage de l’environnement, nous pouvons détecter les tendances claires ou qui émergent et percevoir des signaux faibles quant à des futurs possibles.
// Développer des futurs alternatifs, des scénarios : Il n’y a pas qu’un futur, il est plural. AInsi, on doit explorer et considérer plusieurs futurs et faire des scénarios pour chacun.
// Mieux comprendre les conséquences : analyser les conséquences de 1er et 2e ordre nous permet de mieux comprendre les risques et menaces des décisions quant aux futurs afin d’éviter leurs conséquences néfastes ou perverses.
// Développer des avances et avantages : les méthodes et outils utilisés mettront en évidence des avances et avantages compétitifs que certains futurs peuvent produire.
// Développer une vision : on dit qu’une personne qui voit loin a une bonne vision. Avoir une vision quant au futur, ce n’est pas un don particulier, mais le résultat de l’utilisation de méthodes et d’outils éprouvés.
// Augmenter la performance : comprendre le futur, c’est comprendre le long terme. Une étude longitudinale de Rohrbeck et Kum sur l’impact de la prospective sur la performance des organisations conclut que : “Les entreprises dites “préparées pour l’avenir”, définies comme celles ayant une pratique de prospective affichaient une rentabilité 33 % plus élevée que l’entreprise moyenne et une croissance 200 % plus élevée”.
// Pratiquer de la vigilance : balayer l’environnement politique, économique, social, technologique, environnemental, légal (PESTEL et PESTEL+) afin de rester à l’affût constant des risques, menaces et opportunités qui peuvent surgir et avoir un effet déterminant sur le futur.
// Développer l’intelligence des futurs : en se mobilisant et encourageant la prospective citoyenne et participative, une société profite ainsi de la sagesse de la foule afin d’imaginer plus de futurs et d’impacts. Cela lui permet aussi de s’approprier ses propres méthodes, outils et de se constituer ainsi un patrimoine prospectif.
// Développer de l’antifragilité : L’antifragilité est une propriété des systèmes qui augmente leur capacité à prospérer en raison de facteurs de stress, de chocs, de volatilité, de bruit, d’erreurs, de défauts, d’attaques ou de défaillances (Wikipedia). La pratique de la prospective, par exemple, nous permettant d’augmenter nos choix, options ou alternatives, favorise l’antifragilité.

An Audacious and Disrptive Future, A Revolution ?
La Révolution Tranquille is a Quebec phenomenon that illustrates its decision to free itself from restrictive determinisms in favor of “determining” a more adequate and engaging future, a break with the past. The Revolution Tranquille 2.0 is simply the renewed aim of moving above and beyond the current restrictive determinisms to the “determination” of a preferred future that is more congruent with our vision, needs and ambitions.
